Yeah, that's right. I'm alive, and finally posting again. Between hospital trips and the lack of internet cafes I have been a bit m.i.a., but I am back with a laptop and writing again. Huzzah. Below you will find posts covering the past couple of weeks. My New Years wasn't too exciting (anything involving large numbers of Indian fireworks tends to make me want to hide under my bed) but did involve lots of men dressed up as Santa Clause really getting down around some fishing nets. Ooooh-yeah! It's going to be a good year.

Anywho, I leave for France on the 27 and am just winding down with my time in India and trying to get ready for the next big adventure and doing some last minute learning in Mumbai.
Below, the new suit. A present to myself that was retroactively financed as a Christmas present from some loved ones. Thank you to those who have helped in making me to look dashing.

Yay waistcoat*! At first I was all, "Pchah, what do you need a suit for, suits are for being boring in". And then I saw the last photo and I was all, "Ooh, waistcoat! Awesome suit!".
Love the fishing Father Christmases... do you have any idea what it was all about? And really what's not to love about terrifyingly unsafe fireworks? I still haven't managed to see a Flaming Tower of Death... I'll be so disappointed if I don't see one before I leave Mexico!
Hope the foot is doing OK and getting better. I have never been bitten by anything bigger than a hamster, so I don't really know where it would be on the scale from "a bit annoying and painful" to "miserably excruciating". I hope not too close to the latter! xx
Eloise, I am glad that I got your approval - though with initial reservations. It was a bit extra money - and I think it makes me look like an evil banker - but I figured it might be good to have a vest for those special situations... where I need to look like an evil banker.
The Santa thing is rather odd indeed. The best explanation I got was that people generally like the character of Santa and figured why go for just one day of Santa when you can have an entire week of it? Especially when much of the population isn't Christian and don't get to really involve themselves in Christmas. Lots of kids collect money to make dummy Santas or to buy themselves masks. All of them are dancing because people love to dance here.
The foot is feeling fine at this point. Originally, the bite felt like something heavy squishing my foot. The puncture wounds were minor and a bit uncomfortable, the pain was mainly from the crushing of the jaws. And from the shots which I am getting all the time. Worry not, still no fever, foaming, or biting...
Jesus, I didn't even think about the crushing of the jaws aspect! Ouch! But glad it is fine now.
And noooo, it is not evil-bankery that you are! (Though if you ever do absolutely need to look like an evil banker I'm sure it will be fine.) I like the waistcoat. I think it makes me think "man in period costume" rather than "man in suit". In the same way that black tie and cummerbunds and morning suits and things are dashing and do not come under the mental heading of "man in suit". Anyway, please ignore the madwoman who keeps finding your blog and rambling on about suits and things on old posts.
